An association of real estate owners, investors, business owners & related service providers in the southern Connecticut area.
The Greater Bridgeport Property Owners Association (GBPOA) is a coalition of responsible property owners who have united to help create fair and effective housing laws and promote quality, affordable housing. The GBPOA believes that this will in turn benefit the City of Bridgeport and the surrounding communities of Southern Connecticut.
Our association also provides forums for the sharing of information through monthly meetings with informative guest speakers and literature on a wide variety of topics including: evictions, housing codes, tenant screening, insurance, leases, management methods, financing and taxation.
Our membership is comprised of residential and commercial real estate investors, business owners, associate members and homeowners.
Your support of our organizations is crucial to all of our real estate investments, considering the thousands of dollars often lost in non-payment of rent, eviction costs, legal fees and renovation expenses arising out of the oppressive regulations which tenant’s advocates legislate when unopposed.

The GBPOA Fought To;
Deny proposals that criminal records could no longer be used in criteria for tenant screening. Currently CT landlords can use criminal background as criteria for denial and that ability still stands.
Deny “strict liability” as a potential burden for an already “lead poisoned” tenant from taking possession on a landlords property and now giving them the burden for ongoing medical treatment, etc.
Deny a proposal giving the State Attorney General’s office the ability to cherry pick and go after political foes without having any outside inputs from boards, etc., the proposal on the table also took power from existing government watch dogs and placed it with the AG’s office.
The GBPOA Contributed To;
Rolling back a recent law which required landlords to notify in writing that a small property that did not otherwise require a fire sprinkler system now had to disclose that it did not have a system.
Rolling back a proposal for “rent control” in Connecticut.
Knocking back several proposals related to a state wide uniform maintenance code, this would have allowed municipalities the opportunity to charge an annual fee for operating rental properties and enhancing the authority of local fire marshals to be able to step up fines for code violations.
Knocking back legislation that would make available free radon testing kits to tenants and force landlords to pick up mandatory relocation costs and rent abatement during installation of remediation systems should installation be necessary.
